How Travel Shapes My Creative Approach: Bringing Italian Inspiration to Miami
Italy wasn't just a trip; it was a masterclass in aesthetics. Walking through ancient Roman piazzas and Florence workshops, I caught myself constantly stopping to appreciate how beauty shows up in the smallest details.
I didn't expect these experiences to completely reshape my approach to design. The influences showed up gradually in my work - from client presentations to color choices to how I create spaces that tell real stories.
Less Is More
In Florence, I visited a leather workshop where artisans created pieces so beautiful they needed no logo or extra decoration. The quality spoke for itself - perfect stitching, amazing materials, timeless design.
This experience changed how I think about branding. Now when working with clients, I focus first on getting the foundation right before adding any extras. Quality basics always beat flashy additions.
Timeless Over Trendy
Standing in Roman buildings that have been relevant and beautiful for centuries was a perspective shift. Those 17th-century details somehow felt both historic and completely current.
This made me rethink what "modern" design really means. It's not about chasing trends but creating something with such solid principles that it works regardless of the moment.
Old + New: The Power of Contrast
Throughout Rome, I loved seeing how modern elements mixed with historic structures. Instead of trying to copy the old architecture, the new additions created interesting conversations between different eras.
This mix created something more interesting than either style could achieve alone - a principle I now use regularly to create more dynamic, memorable brand experiences.
The Positano Effect
What stood out along the Amalfi Coast was how each town felt distinctly itself without obvious tourist clichés. Positano restaurants felt local through subtle choices - materials, proportions, atmosphere. Even those iconic colorful buildings cascading down the cliffs weren't just pretty - they were a product of the coastal terrain and Mediterranean climate.
This shapes how I approach Miami brands - drawing inspiration from our city's unique light, incorporating unexpected local materials, and capturing Miami's energy without falling back on palm tree clichés.
The Amalfi Coast Approach
Positano taught me how luxury can feel completely organic. The most memorable spots weren't those with the fanciest fixtures - they were the ones that showcased natural beauty in thoughtful ways.
I'll bring this perspective to future luxury projects by creating moments of discovery, highlighting existing beauty rather than manufacturing it, and designing experiences that connect people to their surroundings.
The Journey Continues
Travel remains my best source of design inspiration. Each destination offers new perspectives that challenge how I think and create.
Italy gave me lessons in restraint, timelessness, contrast, authentic expression, and natural luxury that will shape my future projects. These principles don't just create prettier brands - they develop more effective ones that truly connect with their audience.
